Main Article Content
Abstract
Charcoal is an organic carbon compound. Charcoal is produced by the incomplete combustion of plant and animal products. Charcoal is widely used in outdoor cooking. Before five decades, the demand for charcoal is heavy. Due to technological innovation, the demand is slowly declining. Due to lower demand, price of the charcoal is not increasing. The cost of production of charcoal is in a increasing trend due to non availability of raw materials. The present study focuses on the problems faced by charcoal producing units in Ramanathapuram district. The study is descriptive one as it collects data from primary sources and secondary sources. In Ramanathapuram district, 196 units are producing charcoal. Hence, the 196 units are considered as population units. Out of population units, 65 per cent units are chosen. Hence, the sample size is fixed as 128 units. The samples are chosen as per the convenience of the research. Thus, Convenience sampling technique has been adopted. A well framed and pre tested questionnaire has been used for the collection of the primary data. The secondary data has been gathered from books, magazines and journals. The collected primary data has been coded, edited and tabulated for analytical purpose. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) has been used for analysis of data. Percentage analysis and Garrett’s ranking technique has been used for the analysis of primary data.
