Abstract

Education is one of the important sectors for revolutionary changes in the current period of time. In the traditional system of formal education, students sat in the classroom for the whole period of class and the teacher discussed the topic without the use of any visual presentation. Now, this system was changed. Digital initiatives play an important role in improving the education system. It makes life easier for both students and teachers. For adopting the new technology, it increases the students’ more attention in their classes. Because using this technology, students visualized the entire theoretical concept. Basically digital learning is mostly applicable in higher education. ICT is one of the digital initiatives in the education system. ICT is a wider term for information technology. Which are refers to all communication technologies digitally like internet, wireless networks, mobile phone, computer, projector, software, social networking and video-conferencing etc. Keeping this in view, the present study was planned to analyze the “Impact of using ICT in high schools with special reference to Nagaon district of Assam” with the objectives: 1. To ascertain the level of knowledge of students regarding ICT and 2. To explore the existing practices of ICT adopted by the students. Present study is conducted in six high schools of Nagaon district. Data collection is done with the help of interview schedule. Data revealed that majority (72.00%) of the respondents in the study area within the age group of 13-14 years. Majority of research sample, 42.00 per cent investigated schools had computer facility, followed by 56.00 per cent investigated schools had computer available internet connection and 58.00 per cent investigated schools had projector available in class. Data also stated that 54.00 per cent investigated schools had smart board available in class and 82.00 per cent investigated schools had computer teacher in the school. Majority (72.00%) of the respondents had medium level of knowledge. Data reveals that most (69.00%) of the respondent had medium practice level regarding use of ICT. Knowledge and practices were significantly associated.
