Abstract

Music is combination of two words sang + geet, where sang means together and geet means singing, i.e. singing together. In the sense of singing, the form of singing and playing are two sides of the same coin, that is, the meaning of the word music is singing and playing together. There are many opinions about the origin of music – some believe it originated from animals and birds, some believe it originated from the crying sound of a child and some believe it originated from nature. In Ramayana and Mahabharata, music has been termed as 'Gandharva', Panini has termed music as 'Shilp' in Astadhyayi and Bharat has termed music as 'Gandharva' in Natyashastra.

If the act of singing is studied philosophically, then it is the basis of heart, rhythm and beat in the 'body' i.e. gaatra veena.

अतो गीतं प्रधानत्वाद त्रादावभिधीयते।।'  [ संगीत रत्नाकर ]

According to a philosophical point of view, the three most significant components of this succession are musicality, voice, and feeling; when these three are together, it is feasible to sing, play an instrument, or dance. Subsequently, the crucial part that no melodic point might have is, as I would see it, the converging of vocal articulation with endlessly feeling with mood.
