An Anthropological Perspective on Chronic Kidney Disease in Uddanam, Srikakulam

Abstract
This report examines the high prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), particularly CKD of unknown etiology (CKDu), in the Uddanam region of Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Using an anthropological lens, it explores the interplay of environmental, socio-cultural, and economic factors contributing to this public health crisis. The study employs qualitative research methods to understand local perceptions, health-seeking behaviors, and the impact of CKD on the community. Findings reveal a complex web of factors, including environmental contamination, traditional practices, and socio-economic challenges, that exacerbate the CKD situation. The report concludes with recommendations for integrated, culturally sensitive interventions to address this critical public health issue.
