The Relationship between Pre-service Teachers’ Perceptions Related to Quality of School Life and School Alienation

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between pre-service teachers’ perceptions of quality of school life and school alienation. The study was conducted correlational survey method. This study was carried out on students studying at Kazım Karabekir Education Faculty of Ataturk University in 2013-2014 academic years. The sample of this study consisted of 397 university students chosen by simple random sampling method. The data of the research were collected by the Scale of Quality of Faculty Life and Student Alienation Scale. In the analysis of the data, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson product moment correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were administered. Results revealed that there was a negative, moderate and significant relationship between pre-service teachers’ perceptions of quality of school life and their perceptions of school alienation. On the other hand, pre-service teachers' perceptions related to quality of school life was a significant predictor of alienation from school. Several suggestions are presented to enhance quality of school life and decrease the level of school alienation.
